Best time to visit

The best time to go to the Gobi desert is in September and October. During this period there is no risk of getting sunburned. You should avoid the western part of the desert from the middle of August until October, because this part of the country is often stricken with the plague during these months.

Common to all the cities in the Gobi desert is that you are rarely able to pitch your tent. The only exception is Altai in the Gov-Altai region. But in the national park it is possible to pitch a tent or stay in camps. Most cities have several hotels of varying standards to choose from. Several also have dormitories where you can spend the night. Book your hotel in Gobi Desert here

Other transport

Jeep A jeep is the best form of transportation for getting around in the Gobi desert. You just have to be aware of the fact that there is a shortage of gasoline in the area, and there is a great distance between gas stations. You also have to make sure that nothing is wrong with the jeep.

Special conditions

The busses from Ulaan Baatar do not run further west than Altai. From there you will have to hitch hike or rent your own jeep. It can be a struggle to hitch hike through the Gobi Desert, because most of the cars you will see are broken down or out of gas.
