Venice

Venice is one of the most well known cities in Italy, found on the northeastern coast of the country. Home to iconic attractions such as the Grand Canal, Saint Mark’s Basilica and Saint Mark’s Square, Venice is a must for art lovers and history buffs. Although the city is usually associated with honeymooners and luxury vacationers – both of which have extra cash to splash – you can bag some cheap flights to Venice if you choose to visit out of season.

Venice enjoys a humid subtropical climate, characterized by cold winters which rarely see any snowfall and warm summers which can get very humid. Rainfall is evenly dispersed throughout the year, so even if you manage to snap up some low-cost flights to Venice in the middle of August, there’s still a chance you’ll experience a shower or two.

The most popular time of year to visit Venice is between June and September when the temperatures are at their highest and the days are the longest. If you’re not a fan of oodles of sunshine and boiling temperatures, you’re best off visiting during the spring months – April or May. Not only will you be able to take advantage of less intense sunshine and a much more bearable heat at this time of year, but you’ll also stand a much better chance of getting your hands on some budget flights to Venice than you would if you travelled during the summer season.

Whenever you decide to visit Venice, there are some sites that you absolutely must see. If you can afford to splash out, it’s worth taking a gondola down the Grand Canal. But if this is a stretch too far for you, you can take one of the much more affordable water taxis along the canal instead. The city is also home to some magnificent architecture, such as the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, St. Mary of the Friars church and Palazzo Ducale, as well as some spectacular theatrical performances, including the Venice Music Project, Interpreti Veneziani and Musica A Palazzo, making it perfect for culture vultures.
