Central Taiwan

Alishan

The beautiful scenery in Alishan has already been mentioned, but in addition one should note the picturesque mountain of Chusan, where the Taiwanese enjoy hiking to the top during the early hours of the day.

Steam trains

If interested in powerful steam engines, you should go for a ride on the old railway between Alishan and Monkey Rock. Taiwan is one of the countries where you can still ride the old steam trains.

Tungpu and Hsitou

Tungpu is rich in hot springs and waterfalls that might interest the nature-loving tourist. In Hsitou it is possible to see the vast bamboo plantations.

Northern Taiwan

Fulung

The beach at Fulung is a veritable surfer's paradise, but you can also do other water sport activities such as water-skiing and sailing.

Shihtoushan

Here it is possible to see some of the impressing Buddhist temples, monasteries, and pagodas. In the south-eastern part of this area lies the town of Tienhsiang where you can see the narrow canyon of Taroko Gorge. It is a widespread opinion that this place is the most beautiful spot in Taiwan!

Wulai

Some of the prettiest hot springs are located in the town of Wulai where it is also possible to go hiking in the surrounding mountains. In this place, you'll come across the more authentic Taiwanese culture.

Southern Taiwan

Kenting

If you enjoy lying on the beach, hiking, bicycling, or just ordinary relaxation Kenting is just the right place to go.

Maolin

If the mountains in central Taiwan impressed you, Maolin, with its astonishing peaks, will certainly take your breath away.

Tainan

By the western coast of Taiwan you'll find a large number of temples. Even though you feel like you've had enough of temples and shrines, you should not miss out on a visit to the area surrounding Tainan that once was the capital of Taiwan.

Pei Tou

Not more than 13 km from Taipei, you'll find the Pei Tou hot springs that definitely are worth visiting.
