Good Afternoon, Everyone!

First of all, thank you so much for the comments and adds to my guestbook! It feels so good to know that you haven't forgotten about me and that there are people actually reading this! ♥ It made me so happy to come online for the first time in 3 days and to find those adds :)

So. Today is Day 9. Wow, sounds a lot…although time has past very fast. I only have 2 more days of training, then I will be working alone with my own guests. And tomorrow will be my first day off, haven’t decided yet what I’m going to do. Should I use it to get a good night (and day) sleep or should I take the bus to Scarborough or Middlesbourgh...We’ll see.

The Monday-guests arrived yesterday evening, so now Marina and I have a bunch of 23 new mouths to feed. A few are a bit..er..confused, being so old and everything, but other than that all are nice. There is one older gentleman who’s come here alone and he is so sweet! J He is always asking me how I’m doing when I come to clean the table. And yesetrday he wanted to know where I’m from and everything. “Aaaw, she’s from Finland!!” he said to the couple sitting next to him :D Then there’s one of the drivers who was eating at our section last week, he is always such a “darling” as he would say to us :D Always telling us what a great job we are doing and joking about how Marian should promote us all J So, even though there are always those people who are moaning and treating us like dirt, there are also those who genuinly appreciate our job, that’s what keeps us going!

Let’s change the subject. The weather is still nice, quite a lot of sunshine. Temperatures, I don't know really, but I would guess 15-20C, becuse I've seen people in t-shirts as well! Haven’t yet done much else than work and sleeping. I’m trying to concentrate on learning my job first before anything else. Still, I’ve been downtown most days, just lookig around trying to get familiar with it. Popped in to Whitby Tourist Center yesterday, they had a lot of stuff , you know the souvenirs and everything, and also books about Whitby and its history. A great place for anyone visiting this town.

Since a few days back or something we have a new hotel manager, Pedro. Of course, for me it doesn’t make such a big difference ‘cause I don’t even know who the previous one was. But most of the other workers are not too happy with him becuase he’s brought in some changes. The one that seems to upset most of all is the fact that we, the staff, are not allowed to go down to the hotel bar anymore. I haven’t even been there myself. And I don’t know if I would go if I could because there you are, sitting &having a drink or two with the hotel guests sitting at the table next to you, and the following day you will be serving them food. Seems a bit inappropriate. There are pubs downtown to go to instead. Hmpf.

Yet to another subject. My Polish room-mate and eg. the Estonian girls have been asking me “why did you come here, to England? Finland such a rich country!” For them it’s only about work, here they get more money than they would in their own countries. They are not here to experience something different in the same way that I am. When I told people in Finland that I’m going, everyone was like “wow, that’s great! Good for you. You’ll get to see new places and people”. Here it’s like “Why in the world would you want to come here from Finland” :D I tell them it’s because Finland is boring ;D Sorry, no, I love my country and wouldn’t change it for the world! But the grass is always greener on the other side, eyh? J

On request, I uploaded some new pictures online. I could still add some more, from the hotel maybe.

Hope everything is alright with you back home and wherever you are!

Hugs,

Paula
