Sand, sunscreen & surfing the sunset!
After a safe landing in Honolulu we yelled "Aloha", put on our flip flops and bikini (Martin), small Speedos (Laerke), and ran out the airport into the warm and beautyful... rain... BOMMER!
Luckely the rain lasted all day as well as the next... Super BOMMER!
So what to do?!
Well, when in Hawaii do as the other turists - Go shopping. After shopaholic-Martin found himself an IPod and a fancy pair of pants, the weather cleared up and it was time for some serious beach/surf action. We set of to Ala Moana beach to have som lunch, enjoy the sun and take a swim in the crystal clear water (Martin swam, while Laerke used a half hour to get under the freezing surface).
Christmas eve was celebrated with a lovely non-christmassy dinner at "The Hostel" after which we enjoyed Quentin Tarantino's cosy christmas fairy tale of the same name.
The next day we went surfing and it was SO much fun!! Unfortunately nobody told us to wear a shirt, which resulted in some quite nasty burns on our stomachs. The following days the stomach burns kept us from surfing, while bad weather kept us from the beach, so we decided to some sightseeing:
- Beautyful Hanauma Bay, famous for snorkling, but the sight under water wasn't good
- Diamond Head, a large crater with a terrific view of Waikiki, but there was a fog
- North Shore, best know surf spot in the world because of the large waves, but there was no wind
And so Laerke got herself a depression which could only be cured by CSI. Fortunately one of our 75 TV channels had a CSI marathon on the menu, and 6 hours of CSI did the trick. Laerke's depression was gone and so was 2007... It was time for the New Year Party! However, a party takes preparation and alcohol, so the afternoon was spent buying a nice dinner, beer, champagne and ready-mixed drinks. We had a blast of a new year!
The following days the hangovers were cured by going to the now sunny beach, working on a sun tan. And then we were ready for New Zealand...
