Pai
Hadnt planned on visiting Pai but Danny also recommended the place. small relaxed town, no hassel from tuktuk or room tauts, bungalow overlooking the river and bamboo bridges. on the 3rd day hired a automatic scooter, impressive performance and very easy to ride, shame about the hassel in Vietnam. rode towards MaengSa wonderful road, tight bends with very steep inclines strange to handle, instinctively wanting to stop but if I do will fall so have to force myself to actually increase speed without seeing where I am going. visited few water falls all fairly dry, disapointing as it is very hot and cool water would be nice, small water holes dirty and full of kids and desparate foreigners. Temple on top of hill, very hot day and stalls selling wooly hats!
met Simon again, very chatty and easy to talk, drunk every time! had split up with his girl friend while they were travelling together, she had returned to UK.
There is a sound of sliding and flapping middle of the first night. First I think it is my neighbour who has turned up drunk and unruly but the sounds are rather regular. I push against the rush walls, I hear a Knock, this is repeated everytime I push the wall, some thing is communicating! I go out in the dark and investigate while in my underpants. There is a gap between my and next bungallow and there is a big bird stuck in the furthest
rear corner of my roof. It seems to be a big owl. Unsure what to do, look around to see if it is possible to get it out, cant see one so decide to find the manager in the morning ( he leaves in the evenings) before it is too hot. In the morning the bird had gone and the manager informs me that it must have been his Duck! who has a habbit of perching on top of my roof and finding nesting places.
I have a Hamburger nice change. I also meet with Jason and Kirby, Canadian couple from Chiangmai.
this is quite normal to keep meeting the same people as there are recommended places to visit and stay.
There is a local gym/Pool where I spend a few hours playing frisbee, cool shower is great. I buy a white V neck Tshirt at the market, unclear whether it is unisex or not, seems a little girlie.
