I'm in Rishikesh, finally!
The trip up here was strange-strange-strange. Well no, not the actual trip, but certainly the booking of bus ticket and arriving here, and finding a place to stay.
In Delhi, Julia and I (Julia being a great German girl from the Palampur camp that I hanged out with while in Delhi) tried to get me a deluxe bus ticket from Delhi to Rishikesh. But alas, none were to be found, and we ended up wasting a lot of time + a stupid amount of rupees on just driving around without success.
BUT! As with everything in India, of course the problem could be solved: yesterday, I got into a autorickshaw, and after wasting my time (taking me to all the booking agencies I'd been to Sunday), he wacked me in another rickshaw and sent me to an agency that could help me, no problem.
According to Lonely Planet, the trip should take around about 7 hours. It took a bum-killing 9 hours, and suddenly the bus wasn't going to Rishikesh anyway! So, what did the bus driver do? Instead of just leaving me somewhere, they drove for several kilometers, calling autorickshaws from the windows of the bus: "Are you going to Rishikesh/Will you take this foreign guy to Rishikesh?" Fantastic, cause after a few failures, success was inevitable, and a nice old guy took me right to were I wanted to go - without charge! :-)
And where did I want to be? High Bank in Rishikesh, an absolut 'hoej-borg' for israeli travellers and wannebe yoga trainees. But at the dozens of hotels up there, not one had a vaccant room for Simon E! So down the mountain, get a rickshaw further down and book a room a the Raj Resort.
Enogh, I'm blabbering on and you're getting bored. Most importantly, I can tell you all that I'm feeling good. I've now found a room that I like (at a price I like, too) and all I need to do now is find a yoga/meditation/massage place to my liking.
I've probably not answered half of the questions you've got, and I've most certainly left out more than half of the adventures I'd've liked to tell you, but... Mail me, blog me, call me! ;o)
All the best everyone,
Simon E
