Best time to visit

The rainy season is between November and January, and during the year temperatures do not change much. Tourists come all year round, but in particular around Christmas and Easter you will meet many Venezuelans who visit the island to go to the beach and to go shopping.

Culture and entertainment

There are many discos and bars on the island, and at the bars on the beach they have live music at night. If you like action and unlimited amounts of liqueur, the nightlife on this island is definitely a place for you. Gamblers can visit the enormous casino on the island.

Accommodation / Hotel

Hotels are everywhere. Charter tourists usually occupy the larger ones, while you will still find little B&Bs run by families out by the beach. Book your hotel in Isla de Margarita here

Local transport

Taxi

There are lots of taxis on the island. Many of them do not have a sign on them, but you can be sure that they will let you know they are there if you look like you need a taxi. Few of them have a meter, so agree on the price beforehand.

Other transport

There is bus service between the beaches and Porlamar. These vehicles carry enormous speakers that play the driver's favourite music. Be patient, as the buses rarely go the direct way to their destination.

Special conditions

The island is located in a free trade zone, and some products are duty-free. The Venezuelans shop like mad here, even though the price is the same as on the mainland. Do not forget to enjoy a fresh fish at a seaside restaurant.
