Attractions from Nigeria

Jos

Jos Wildlife Park

In the park you can experience wild nature and wild animals. The park is situated 14 kilometers outside of Jos and is much more exciting than the city Zoo.

The Jos Museum Complex

The building contains 4 museums and a Zoo. The terracotta collections and the museum for traditional Nigerian architecture are exceptional. Here you can take a walk on a reconstruction of Kano's old city wall, see magnificent mosques and eat traditional Nigerian food in a reconstruction of an old chief cottage, among many other things.

Kano

The Gida Dan Hausa quarter

When you enter Gida Dan Hausa a fantastic and marvellous world unfolds before you. The many old buildings bear witness to the magnificent culture that has marked the area. If you close your eyes you can almost imagine the crowds of the past, when the old caravan routes met here.

The Kurmi market

The Kurmi market is one of Africa's largest and oldest market places. Here you will find ancient African artworks in gold and silver, several centuries old. You see the old crafts performed right in front of you. For instance, you can go see Africa's oldest dyeing caves, where cloth is dyed in all the colours of the rainbow.

The palace of the Emir

Next to the Kano mosque you will find the palace of the Emir and the Gidan Makama museum. It is difficult to get into the palace, since the Emir still lives there. In return, you can enjoy the part of the palace that is converted into a museum. The beautiful museum building from the 15th century contains a very interesting exhibition of architecture.

Lagos

The markets in Lagos

The market places are huge and filled with colourful life. The most well known ones are Morocco I and II and the Balogun Market. These places have to be seen. You simply won't believe your own eyes.

The National Museum

The National Museum has a large and inspiring collection of African art, artwork and weapons. The museum's collection of Benin bronzes and ivory carvings is something completely unique. A trip to this museum is an excellent way to get a much-needed break from the hectic city-life for a few hours.

The old fishing villages

If you want to get away from the buzzingly busy city, you can go to the harbour and catch a water-cab to the lagoon and the old fishing villages, where you can relax on the many beaches and enjoy excellent meals at the local restaurants.

Nigeria

Gashaka Gumpti National Park

Gashaka Gumpti is Nigeria's biggest national park, and here you will find the highest mountain in the country. The reserve is not as well-developed and well-equipped as many of the other national parks, but it has an amazing wildlife.

Wikki Warm Spring

Apart from the fascinating wildlife the Yankari national park can offer a lovely swim in the crystalline Wikki Warm Springs. The mineral water has a constant temperature of 31 degrees. It is 10 meters wide and 200 meters long.
