Accommodation / Hotel

It is a good idea to buy a hammock in Oriente. A hammock is pleasant in the warm and moist weather and sometimes it is the only place to sleep. There are plenty of hotels. Another possibility is the jungle stations, which usually are expensive but in return lies at places where the nature and the animal life is fabulous. Book your hotel in Orienté here

Local transport

Taxi

River taxis are useful even at longer distances. Ordinary taxis can be found in all major towns. Most of them drive without a taximeter, which means you will have to settle the price in advance.

Other transport

Like in the rest of the country busses here are a fairly reliable way of transport. There are also route boats on the larger rives, and a journey on one of these is a far more interesting way to get around in Oriente than sitting in a rumbling bus.

Sooner or later when you are staying in Oriente, you will be offered a trip to a real Indian village to see real Indians. These trips usually go to a small village nearby, which receives tourist a couple of times a week and where the Indians are put on display in honour of the visitors. It is possible to go to an authentic Indian village in the jungle, but it takes a lot of work and the guide will demand a great deal of money to take you there.
