Bay Islands

The Guanaja Island

Coral reef, sunken ships and a national park. Guanaja is covered with forest, and about 90 % of the island have been declared National Trust Area. The island is surrounded by several kilometres of coral reef, and several sunken ships are situated in the sea outside of the Guanaja island. The two things make the island a perfect place for diving.

The Roatána Islands

100 kilometres of coral reef, white beaches and even more! Roatán is the largest of the three islands, surrounded by more than 100 kilometres of coral reef. This island is paradise for divers, and especially the beaches on the western side of the islands presents a spectacular view with a turquoise coloured ocean, colourful fish, white beaches and coconut palms.

The Utila Island

Dive, snorkel and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere Utila is a small, intimate and relaxing island. The inhabitants are very friendly and kind. The landscape is very flat with only one small hill. The island is perfect for a relaxation and to enjoy the friendly atmosphere. Moreover, Utila is the cheapest of the three islands.

Comayagua

The city Comayagua

Comayagua used to be the capital of Honduras between 1537 and 1880. In the centre of the city you will see an extraordinary, beautiful cathedral dating back to the 16th century. The cathedral has many precious art treasures and has one of the oldest bells of the worlds, built more than 800 years ago. The city is also home of the first university in all of Central America. The university was founded in 1632.

Copán Ruinas

This cosy, timeless village is situated only a few kilometres of the famous Maya Ruins, which constitutes the most popular tourist attraction in this area. Here, you will experience fascinating adventures and ancient histories from the time where the Maya Indians inhabited this area. About one hour from the village you can find hot pools, which are surely worth a visit.

Museo Regional de Arquelogia

Situated in the city centre, this museum has beautiful portraits and other artifacts from the Maya Indians' period. You will see an impressive collection of items, and for people interested in history, this museum is definitely worth a visit.

The Acropolis Temple

Acropolis is a large temple, also part of the Copán Ruins. A long stairway will lead you to the temple and on the way you will see stones carved with several hieroglyphs. The Copán Ruinas is one of the most visited places in Honduras, and a walk in all these ancient ruins is surely an amazing experience.

The El Tigre Island

The El Tigre Island is a small vulcano island, situated in the Gulf of Fonseca. Life on the island is calm and pleasant, and many tourists visit this island to experience the atmosphere and to relax. You will also find some nice beaches on the island, and naturally splendid seafood meals. You may reach the island by boat or ferry.

The Great Plaza

The Great Plaza is part of the Copán Ruins. This large square is the home of ancient tombstones dating back to the Maya Indian period. Pictures and figures have been carved in most of the stones, and the Great Plaza is a very interesting an impressive place to visit.

The Hog Islands

The Hog Islands is a small group of privately owned islands, situated 17 kilometres from the coast of La Ceiba. The islands provide excellent possibilities for diving and snorkelling, as many parts of the coast are surrounded by coral reef. You may rent a boat to go there, and if asking the owner of the island, permission is often given to camp on the island.

The Mosquitia region

Mosquitia is situated in the northeastern part of Honduras. The area is inhabited by Miskito, Paya and Sumo Indians, and the region's development is basically non-existing. However, many people feel attracted by this area due to the amazing nature. Besides, you will find many wild animals in this area, and will most likely see monkeys as well as alligators while visiting this region.

The National Park Marino Punta Sal

This marine national park is quite extraordinary, being a mixture of rain forest, fungi and coral reef. This area is totally unspoiled, and it is necessary to bring your own food. The trip to the park may be an adventure in its own; you will go by bus, truck, boat and finally you will have to walk. Being in the area, this park is a must!

Tegucigalpa

La Tigra National Park

The park is situated near Tegucigalpa in a height of 2270 metres, in one of the country's most beautiful areas, which furthermore has an extraordinary wildlife. Following the paths through the forest of the park, you may see pumas, monkeys and lots of colourful birds.

The National Museum

The National Museum is placed in a building, which used to be the home of one of the country's presidents, Lozano. The museum tells the anthropological and archaeological history dating back to pre-colonial times and is surely worth a visit for people with a historical interest.

The San Isidro Market

Mercado San Isidro is one of the city's markets and is geographically situated near Rio Choluteca. The market is rather big with many activities. Almost everything is for sale, yet this market is especially known for its handcrafted leatherworks and the colourful, woven hats.

Trujillo

The Archaeological Museum

The museum is situated near the Rio Cristales, and has a fascinating, archaeological collection of items; here you may see everything from ancient maya artifacts, to parts of a plane crashing on the coast in 1985.

The Beaches of Trujillo

Trujillo is in a constant struggle with Tela of having the best beaches on the Caribbean Coast, so here you will also find amazingly white sand beaches with an azure coloured ocean and coconut palms. Most people visit Trujillo for relaxation and to enjoy the beautiful beaches.

The El Castillo Fort

The El Castillo Fort is an old Spanish Fort, dating back to the 17th century. Situated by the coast, it provides an excellent view of the area. In the fortress you many, among other things, see old canons used for protecting the city against enemies.
